Abuse and Neglect Prevention Conference on Nov. 17

RENO — Internationally recognized expert on domestic violence and child abuse and neglect Lundy Bancroft will speak at the Joe Crowley Student Union on the University of Nevada, Reno campus on Nov. 17 as part of the ninth annual Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention (CAN Prevent) task force conference. Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto will begin the event with a keynote address scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Bancroft will be the featured presenter for the remainder of the conference, which will end at 4:30 p.m.

Bancroft is the author of several books on the subject of domestic violence. His book “The Batterer as a Parent” won the 2004 Center for Child Welfare Policy Pro Humanitate Literacy Award. Bancroft also wrote the books “Why Does He Do That? Inside the Minds of Angry and Controlling Men” and “When Dad Hurts Mom: Helping Your Children Heal the Wounds of Witnessing Abuse.” Bancroft also made speaking appearances in Canada and New Zealand earlier this year.

The registration fee for the conference is $50 for individuals or $40 for CAN Prevent members or if two or more people from the same agency wish to attend. More information on the conference and on CAN Prevent can be found at www.canpreventnv.org.
