Robert Elwing: 1941-2009

Robert Elwing, Sparks resident, went to the Lord on Oct. 22, 2009 at a local hospital due to a lengthy illness.

Born in Chicago on Dec. 1, 1941, he is survived by his wife of 26 years, “Robin” Elwing. Between the couple there are four daughters (Christianna Burns, Deborah Farris, Rhonda Bogard and Roshanna Elwing), three sons (Matthew Elwing, Jeffrey Ydiando and John Farris), nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The eldest of seven, he is survived by one sister and two brothers. A graduate of Memorial High School in Eau Claire, Wis., Lower Columbia College and Portland State in Oregon. Elwing was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force and he retired in 2007 from a local casino. The Elwings attend Horizon Christian Church in Sparks. A memorial will be held Friday at 6 p.m. at Excel Christian School, 2285 Oddie Blvd. in Sparks. A scholarship fund is opened at Excel for contributors.

Robert was a man who did justly, loved mercy and walked humbly with his GOD.
