RENO –– The Salvation Army has issued a plea for donations of usable furniture, household goods, appliances and clothing. Donations have dropped off significantly, according to a release from Carole Miller, community relations director of the local Salvation Army, because many people can’t afford to give away those things right now.

Those donations are desperately needed to stock the Salvation Army Thrift Stores. More people are coming in for free clothing vouchers, according to Miller. Still others are shopping in thrift stores because they can’t afford to buy retail. Store sales help support the Army’s substance abuse recovery program for men.

You can free up space in your garage, basement or other storage area and get a tax deduction by donating those items to the Salvation Army. To schedule a donation pickup, call 688-4559.
