Washoe County librarian and Rancho San Rafael Botanical Society volunteer Susan Stewart leads the walk and explains the development and use of labyrinth gardens throughout history.
“Labyrinths have been used for centuries as tools for healing, meditation and bringing peace into people’s lives,” said Arboretum Horticulturist Bill Carlos. “These patterned circuits offer a place for people of all faiths and beliefs to walk, think or simply reflect, helping themselves and their families heal on a personal as well as community level.”
The Labyrinth Garden at the May Arboretum and Botanical Garden is dedicated to victims of violent crime in the community and their loved ones.
The garden project was initiated by the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office, Nevada Attorney General’s Office and Victims in Crisis, Turmoil or Recovery (VICTORY).
The Spring Equinox Walk will be held in the Labyrinth Garden at the Wilbur D. May Arboretum in Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, 1595 N. Sierra St., in Reno. Admission is free. For more information, call the Wilbur May Arboretum at 785-4153 or visit www.washoecountyparks.com.
