Motorized traffic is now prohibited at a 270-acre regional park site located east of Pyramid Way and south of Disc Drive. The city of Sparks is developing the parcel into Wedekind Regional Park with passive uses including upgraded trails.

Fencing is currently being installed along the perimeter of the property restricting access to off-road vehicles, ATVs, motorcycles, etc. Existing trails are open to walking and non-motorized biking access only.

The Wedekind Regional Park site is one of the few open space areas in the city of Sparks boundaries. A Recreation and Public Purposes Act Application with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) was filed in 1993 for a lease on the property. The application was approved in July, granting the city of Sparks a five-year lease.

Plans for the park include natural trails and observation areas positioned to take full advantage of the vista points. A trailhead with restrooms and parking, and a neighborhood park have also been designated for future development of the park.
