Sparks police were first on scene and found an apartment on the first floor fully involved in fire. The police department completed evacuation of the 16-unit building as the fire department was arriving.
First fire companies on-scene found the apartment heavily involved in fire, with the fire spreading to the apartment above it.
Fire crews initiated a transitional attack, extinguishing the exterior fire first then rapidly moving inside the apartments for interior extinguishment. This strategy brought the fire under control within five minutes of starting the attack.
Fire damage was limited to the apartment where the fire started and the apartment immediately above it.
Seventeen personnel responded, including a battalion chief, four structure engines, one truck company and a fire investigator.
There were no injuries reported to either occupants or to responding public safety crews. All units except for the ones involved in the fire were able to be re-occupied.
The Red Cross assisted one family in relocating.
No cause for the fire has been determined and remains under investigation. No damage cost estimates have yet been calculated.
