MOUND HOUSE — On Tuesday at 6:36 a.m., the Nevada Highway Patrol received a report of a three-vehicle head-on accident on U.S. 50 in Mound House, about three miles east of Carson City.
Responding troopers arrived at the scene to find a silver 2004 Chevrolet HHR with significant front end damage and two other vehicles, a red 2003 GMC truck and a white 2000 Plymouth passenger vehicle, fully engulfed in flames.
The preliminary investigation reveals the Chevrolet was traveling east on U.S. 50 in the No. 1 travel lane. The vehicle was being driven by Isolde Ann Taysom, 51, of Dayton. The red GMC truck was traveling westbound on U.S. 50 in the No. 1 travel lane and being driven by Scott W. Lamonda, 46, of Yerington. The white Plymouth passenger vehicle was traveling westbound on U.S. 50 in the No. 2 travel lane driven by Michelle R. Northway, 46, from Stagecoach.
For reasons yet to be determined, the Chevrolet veered across the asphalt gore area and entered the westbound travel lanes. The left front of the Chevrolet struck the left front of the red GMC. The red GMC rotated into the No. 2 westbound travel lane and was struck by the white Plymouth in a second collision. The red GMC and the white Plymouth passenger car caught fire and were completely burned.
Both Taysom and Lamonda were pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers in the GMC, Paul Wiles, 45, and Randy Menisini, 36, both of Yerington, were transported to Renown Regional Medical Center via Care Flight and treated for moderate injuries. Northway was not injured.
The investigation is still in progress. Anyone who witnessed the accident or has pertinent information can call 688-2500.
