Fatal collision in Mound House

MOUND HOUSE — On Friday at about 4:15 p.m., Nevada Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to a head-on collision on Highway 50, near the junction to SR341 in Mound House. A white 2000 Toyota van, driven by 62-year-old Steven Milnor Gonzales of Dayton, was traveling westbound.  The vehicle crossed the centerline and entered the eastbound travel lane, colliding head-on with a white 2008 Toyota truck. The truck was driven by 58-year-old Richard Wayne Gilder of Fallon. Both drivers were taken to Renown Regional Medical Center by Care Flight. 

Gonzales died at the hospital on Friday. Gilder received serious injuries and is listed in a critical but stable condition. 

The Nevada Highway Patrol’s Major Accident Investigation Team is continuing to investigate this accident. Witnesses to the event or anyone with additional information should contact the Trooper Eric Gallagher at 689-4661 regarding case No. NHP-1008271262.
